After Natalie Wood reportedly turned down the role, Eggar magnificently blended strength and vulnerability to receive a best actress Oscar nomination for her turn as an innocent art student kidnapped and held captive by a lonely psychotic (Terence Stamp) in William Wyler’s chilling The Collector (1965).

Eggar became a darling of horror fans by appearing in such fare as The Dead Are Alive! (1972), A Name for Evil (1973), The Uncanny (1977) and Curtains (1983). Mehr als fünf Jahrzehnte lang arbeitete er eng mit Komponist Ralph Siegel zusammen – eine der erfolgreichsten Partnerschaften der deutschen Musikgeschichte. Gemeinsam schrieben sie unzählige Hits, darunter mehrere Beiträge für den Eurovision Song Contest: »Ein bisschen Frieden« (Nicole), »Dschinghis Khan« (Dschinghis Khan), »Theater« (Katja Ebstein) und viele weitere Titel, die zu Klassikern des deutschen Schlagers gehören.

Klaus Doldinger (89) - Der Sound der BRD

Im Mai 1945 spielten in einem Schrobenhausener Gasthof amerikanische Soldaten Jazz. Er habe diese Musik inhaliert, sagte er mal, eine Musik, zu der man »nicht in Reih und Glied marschieren oder die Hacken« hätte zusammenschlagen können. (...)

Doldinger spielte Jazz, bis in die frühen Morgenstunden trat er in Düsseldorfer Klubs und Restaurants auf, etwa im »Csikôs«, wo auch Günter Grass auftrat (damals noch nicht Literaturnobelpreisträger, sondern Kunst studierender Waschbrettspieler). Doldinger spielte weiter, so weit, bis Coca-Cola ihn durch das Land touren ließ, aus dem Coca-Cola und Doldingers Sehnsuchtsmusik kamen. In New Orleans wurde Doldinger bereits zu einem Zeitpunkt Ehrenbürger, zu dem ein deutscher Kritiker schrieb, die Bundesrepublik sei im Hinblick auf Jazz noch »ein Entwicklungsland«. (...)

Unter dem Namen Paul Nero machte er »Unterhaltungsmusik«, wie es zur damaligen Zeit hieß, unter dem Namen The Motherhood wurde es psychedelisch, und mit seiner Band Passport, die Jazz mit Rock verband, veröffentlichte Doldinger in den Siebzigerjahren, dem Jahrzehnt, aus dem auch die »Tatort«-Melodie stammt, das erste Album einer deutschen Band bei der renommierten amerikanischen Plattenfirma Atlantic Records (...).

Almond was such an arresting presence that it was easy to overlook the other guy on stage, moustachioed, mute and virtually motionless behind his keyboard. But, as his bandmate was given to pointing out, overlooking Dave Ball was a terrible misjudgement. “He really was a psycho,” Almond later recalled. “There would be times when he’d leap from behind the keyboards if someone was threatening me on stage, and he’d punch someone in the front row.”

Björn Andrésen (70)

He is best known for having played the 14-year-old Tadzio in Luchino Visconti's 1971 film adaptation of the 1912 Thomas Mann novella Death in Venice. He also played a minor role in Ari Aster's 2019 folk horror film Midsommar. (...)
