“The Shadow’s Edge” (iQIYI Pictures), a thriller directed and written by Larry Yang, debuted strongly at No. 3 with $20.5 million. The film follows retired Macau surveillance expert Wong Tak-Chung (Jackie Chan), who’s brought back to track a high-tech heist carried out by a mastermind criminal known as the “Wolf King.” Assisting him is rookie cop He Qiuguo (Zhang Zifeng), as they face off against Tony Leung Ka-fai’s cunning Fu Longsheng and his criminal gang. It has a cumulative box office of $30.3 million to date and is ninth on the global chart.

Die Kritiken, die ich bislang gelesen habe, sind geradezu verstörend positiv, der Film wird nicht nur als gut, sondern ausgesprochen gelungen bezeichnet, und trotz einer Laufzeit von fast zweieinhalb Stunden auch als durchweg spannend und unterhaltsam. Spüre jetzt doch ein wenig Vorfreude.

“The Shadow’s Edge” (iQIYI Pictures) held the China box office for a second weekend, grossing RMB189.1 million ($26.3 million) for a running total of RMB878 million ($121.9 million), according to Artisan Gateway. The Jackie Chan thriller is directed by Larry Yang.

Für Chan-Verhältnisse natürlich fast ein Hit, verglichen mit den chinesischen Box-Office-Hits des letzten Jahres aber doch eher bestenfalls Achtungserfolg.
